Memoket Launches in Japan

Japan found Memoket before Memoket found Japan. No Japanese website. No Japanese app. No advertising in the market. Yet when we opened pre-orders to the world, hundreds of Japanese customers ordered the Gem from our English-only site. Today, we showed up to say thank you and to stay.

On October 21, 2026, we held our official Japan launch event at Aoyama One in Tokyo, bringing together 17 of Japan's top technology media, five-plus creators and influencers, and a group of business partners who will help us build something meaningful here. It was our first event in Japan, and one of the most energizing days we have had as a company.

The signal Japan sent us

A market that chose us first

Before we localized a single page, before we ran a single ad, Japanese customers found the Memoket Gem and ordered it. Those early adopters told us something important: Japan understands where AI is going, and the Gem fits naturally into the way people here work, think, and communicate.

After the Gem launched on Amazon Japan, the reviews came in near 5.0 out of 5. That level of early satisfaction, in a market where expectations are high and criticism is precise, was one of the clearest signals we have received as a product team.

The event

Aoyama One, Tokyo

We gathered media, creators, and partners to experience the Gem firsthand and to hear our vision for what we are building. The conversation covered everything from how the Gem works alongside an Apple Watch to the long-term role of contextual AI memory in daily and professional life.

Journalists and editors from Japan's leading technology publications were in the room. So were influencers who cover productivity, wearables, and AI tools for audiences across Japan. And alongside them, the business partners who will help us serve this market well for years to come.

"Japan didn't wait for us to come to them. That kind of early trust sets a very high bar, and it's one we take seriously. We are not here for a launch moment — we are here to build a real home for Memoket in Japan."

Terrence Wang, Co-founder and CEO, Memoket

In the news

How Japan covered the launch

Within hours of the event, coverage appeared across Japan's most trusted technology publications. Here is a selection from October 21:

PC Watch

Impress Watch
Apple Watchに装着できるAIレコーダー「Memoket Gem」録音からAI活用までシームレス
AI Watch

Gadget Gate

PC Watch and Impress Watch are among Japan's most widely read technology publications. Having both cover the Gem on launch day, alongside AI Watch and Gadget Gate, reflects what we experienced in the room: genuine curiosity and serious engagement with what the product does.

What we shared

Memoket Gem, and what comes next

At the event we walked through Memoket Gem as a wearable personal agent: an 11g device that records conversations with a single button press, works alongside an Apple Watch or on its own wristband, and feeds structured context into the tools people already use like ChatGPT, Slack, Notion, and more.

We also shared the thinking behind KITE, our long-term memory engine. Most AI tools treat each conversation as isolated. KITE connects them. It links related content across meetings, dates, and projects, so the Gem does not just capture what happened in today's meeting, but it also builds a picture of what is actually going on over time.

Designed for Japan

Japanese transcription accuracy was one of the first things Japanese customers tested. It passed. The Gem supports 153 languages with native accuracy, and the Apple Watch co-wear design means it fits naturally into a meeting room without the distraction of earbuds or a phone on the table.

We shared how people are already using the Gem across industries: sales teams capturing deal conversations and uncovering the real concerns a prospect didn't voice directly; hiring managers recording interviews and generating comparison tables; students capturing lectures and reviewing material at their own pace; professionals logging field work and care notes without a second device in hand.

Our commitment

Building for the long term in Japan

Japan is not a market we are passing through. We see it becoming one of Memoket's top two or three markets globally by revenue, and we are making decisions that reflect that.

That means a Japanese-language app and site, a local entity and team, and partnerships with the universities, enterprises, and retailers who serve the people we want to reach. It means a Japan-region cloud option as the market grows, because we know that data residency matters here. And it means continued investment in the accuracy and nuance of Japanese transcription, which is where trust is built or lost in this market.

On privacy

Every Gem records with a visible red light — there is no silent or hidden mode by design. Recordings are stored on the user's device by default; Memoket staff cannot access them. We do not use recordings to train AI models without explicit user consent. These commitments are not features — they are how we think the product should work.

Today's event was our first day in Japan. We intend to be here for many more.
